Winter 2012 -
Even with little snow cover
make
sure to plan ahead for winter conditions
|
The
CRT is marked with blue blazes, which
may be difficult to see in a snowy environment.
Blazes may frequently be buried beneath
the snow
|
 |
Deep
snow may obscure all signs of the trail.
Topographical maps and a compass are helpful.
Daylight is short in the winter and darkness
may come suddenly.
Stay alert to the dangers of hypothermia and
frostbite.
Know the signs and how to treat them.
Be prepared to keep warm and sheltered with
nothing more than the equipment you carry.
You may encounter winter weather at higher elevations
even during the fall and spring.
Use skis or snowshoes.
Post-holing makes the trail unpleasant and
dangerous for those on the trail behind you.
