Wildlife Habitat Walk in West Fairlee with Chuck Eaton
The walk will begin at Elmwood
Farm located 3.5 miles up Middlebrook Road from
Rt 244 on the right. The walk will start at
3 PM on Sunday, July 10th. You can't miss
his steel Griffin out front. Pull in and park
in the back yard. His farm is 475 acres and
the walk could take any amount of time up to 2 hours,
depending on the interest. He will discuss a
wildlife habitat management plan, restoration of apple
orchards, and how to encourage wildlife habitat.

Forestry Walk to Bald Top Moutain with Mike Scott, Redstart ForestryMeet at the CRT trailhead crossing on Bloodbrook Rd in West Fairlee, VT (off of Route 244) at 9am. Join Mike Scott of Redstart Forestry
on a moderate hike (4.0 miles round-trip) to Bald Top Mountain. Learn
about the forested landscape and tree identification. Please

May 8th Wildflower Walk in Vershire (9am to 12pm)
Meet at the Westshire Elementary School in West Fairlee, VT (off of Route 113).
Join
Peggy Willey and Val Stori on a moderate hike through the fields and
forests of Vershire on the CRT to learn about
wildflower identification.
We'll be looking for spring treasures such
as trout lilies, marsh marigolds, spring beauties, blue cohosh, and
much more. Participants should wear sturdy shoes, and carry water and
warm clothes. Bring a camera or sketch pad if you wish.

Annual Cross Rivendell Ramble
Hike-A-Thon
Fundraiser to Support the Trail

We
had a great Ramble in Orford - our sixth annual. Thanks
to the many of you who came out and hiked, and/or
sent in donations. We've had great support from many
individuals and businesses, in sponsorships and prizes.
In all 45 people hiked a total of close to 200 miles!

Wildflower Walk on the Cross Rivendell Trail

Join Peggy Willey and Val Stori for an exploration
of spring's first blossoms. We'll be walking on the
Cross Rivendell Trail off of Middlebrook Road through
fields and hardwood forests in search of spring wildflowers.
Come share your enthusiasm and knowledge of plants
as we help you identify things we find. Please wear
sturdy shoes and appropriate clothing for spring weather
hiking.
Bring a plant ID book if you've got one and a notebook
if you are so inclined.

Picnic
on Patterson Mountain
(Sally Drew Trail, Vershire)
Each
year RTA celebrates National
Trails Day with a reception and a
variety of morning hikes for all ages and abilities.
This year we will celebrate
in Vershire on the Sally Drew Trail to Patterson Mountain.
This is Vershire's Patterson Mountain Forest, donated
by the Drew Family in 1985.
The
day will include 3 different hiking / work options:
1) 0.6 mile hike to the meadow outlook on Patterson
Mountain and a pot-luck lunch. Meet at the Vershire
Center Rd parking area (directions, see below) at
10:30am. A relaxing family hike – please
bring a pot-luck item to share. A necessary
napkins, small plates, utensils, cups, etc to be provided.
2)
Leave from Taylor Valley Road at 9:00am and cover
the 3.3 miles over Hawkins Mountain to reach the meadow
for lunch. Meet at the Vershire Center Rd parking
area (directions, see below) at 8:30am. We will
carpool to the Taylor Valley Rd / Chelsea Rd trailhead.
3)
Finally, the morning will include nearby trail clearing
from Parker Rd to Vershire Center Rd. Meet at
the Vershire Center Rd parking area (directions, see
below) at 8:30am. Gloves and work clothes recommended
for trail clearing and brushing. Any volunteers
with sawyer certification would be of great help with
tree work for this event and all other trail work
days (TBD).
Vershire
Center Rd (Chamberlain Hill Rd) Trailhead. From VT
Route 113 in Vershire Village, take Vershire Center
Rd, follow past The Mountain School and look for the
blue Cross Rivendell Trail signs where the trail crosses
the road. The parking area and information kiosk
are located up the private driveway (see signs).
Please do not continue beyond parking area.
